about

Get ready to rave on! We are thrilled to present to you "Genetic Genetic" in our exclusive Adkins remasters series.

The EP, aptly titled "The Disposable Entertainment", encapsulates the producer's perception of the hardcore rave techno during its heyday in the early 90s as something that was quickly produced and easily discarded.

Imbued with the spirit of LL Cool J, "I Can't Live Without My Video," is a breakbeat techno track that perfectly exemplifies the aforementioned era with its high intensity, rave stabs, and breaks transporting you back to the heart of the rave culture that defined an entire generation.

The next two tracks burst with pure raw energy. "Protozyme" is an auditory manifestation of a bull unleashed upon a delicate china shop, while “Machine Love” relays the intensity of standing by a Formula 1 track in full swing.

As the EP ventures into "Icon," a track released in 1992, it remarkably captures the essence of what would later emerge as the dubstep sound, over two decades ahead of its time. With its deep sub-bass line, 140 bpm tempo, 2-step drum lines, reverberating snares, and the incorporation of congas, "Icon" foreshadows the characteristics that became the hallmarks of dubstep.

Crafted using a humble ensemble of tools, including a Korg DSS-1 synth/sampler with a 256k memory, an unassuming Realistic (Tandy/Radio shack) mixer, a Boss reverb unit, and an 808 drum machine, although not extensively used. The sequencing was done using an Atari computer.
